VS Fashion Show 2019 isn’t happening. But are we really surprised?

Victoria’s Secret has been criticized several times for its non-inclusive fashion shows. This was further fueled by chief marketing officer Ed Razek’s comment that trans models don’t belong on their runway. He eventually released a public apology, saying that they do welcome trans models in castings but they never make the cut.

Regardless, the brand was #cancelledt by many people. Months later, their parent company L Brands announced they’d be closing 53 VS stores this year following the accusations of non-inclusivity.

Which is why it’s also not surprising to hear that this year’s Victoria’s Fashion Show is reportedly not pushing through. Supermodel Shanina Shaik said confirmed in an interview with The Daily Telegraph, saying, “It’s something I’m not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an Angel. But I’m sure in the future something will happen, which I’m pretty sure about. I’m sure they’re trying to work on branding and new ways to do the show because it’s the best show in the world.”

As of writing, Victoria’s Secret hasn’t confirmed nor denied Shanina’s statement.

We’re guessing VS is getting its sh*t together and talking about how to further diversify their pool of talents, as well as their pieces. Which they should because we’re living in a world where people believe Barbara Palvin is a representation for the plus-size community (she’s not), and trans models are, again, ignored.

If VS does plan to become more inclusive, perhaps they can take notes from brands like Savage x Fenty. Just saying.
