Miley Cyrus responds to trolls who think she deserves to be harassed

All over the world, it seems consent is still largely a concept that’s too difficult to grasp. Miley Cyrus’ recent trip to Barcelona shows this much. In an upsetting clip shared on Twitter, the singer is seen walking behind her husband Liam Hemsworth, when a fan grabbed her by her hair, aggressively pulled her in and kissed her, then reached out, it seems, to grope her.

Since it has gone viral, Miley has finally spoken out with a short but piercing statement about consent and victim-blaming in her social media.

When some netizens suggested her “sexy” image could justify the fan’s sick behavior, she responded with “#Don’tF*ckWithMyFreedom,” quoting a lyric from her new song “Mother’s Daughter.”

And posting a footage of The Talk hosts discussing the encounter, she wrote: She can be wearing what she wants. She can be a virgin. She can be sleeping with [five] different people. She can be with her husband. She can be with her girlfriend. She can be naked. She CAN’T be grabbed without her consent.”

Amen.
