Ditch the wedding veil, wear an ornate headpiece instead

We’re two months into 2019 and wedding fever is already high thanks to the surprise engagements of Dani Barretto and Xavi Panlilio, and Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. Of course, it’s still way too soon to ask about details, but just to help them out (especially the bride), Etsy released their predicted wedding trends for the year.

One of the standouts from the list are bridal headpieces, which would replace traditional wedding veils. According to Etsy’s stats, there’ve been a spike in searches for these items in the last three months. Last year, we saw Princess Eugenie ditch the veil and just wore a tiara so she can flaunt her surgical scar on her spine.

Brides can also opt for unique hair accessories instead of the usual veil that covers the bride’s face. Iza Calzado, for example, went for a starfish and seashell clip to hold her veil back for the whole ceremony.

If you want some ideas to spruce up your bridal look on your special day, here are some ornate headpieces and hair accessories you can cop.

Pronovias Lightweight Bridal Headband in Aged Silver and Gemstones

This headband is made with thin wire-like silver and the “branches” have gemstones at the ends. Minimalist brides will love this piece as it’s not too loud and will add sparkly elements to their hair. Available at Mi Sueño Bridal Boutique, Makati City.

Rosa Clará Hair Ornament

Don’t listen to people who say flower crowns are exclusive to music festivals. This one from Rosa Clara has touches of pink and green, plus a thin tulle veil attached at the bottom. It’s described as “Boho-style” so it’s perfect for garden and/or beach ceremonies. Available at The Residences at Greenbelt.

Olivia the Wolf Emilia Headpiece

Looking for a tiara for your wedding day? The Emilia Headpiece will be your best bet. It has a halo style made from a Swarovski crystal chain and the ends are tied by ivory ribbons with rayon tassels. The tiara design is made with gold-plated jewelry findings, faux pearls, and Czech crystals. It’s a modern take without looking too pageant-y, especially if you’re not going to wear a veil. Available online.

Rose & Crown Floral Hair Accessory

Need something blue? Incorporate this comb-like hair accessory with baby blue fabric flowers to your updo. The “vine” detail will also add dimension to the hairstyle. Available at Frankie and Friends Concept Store, SM Aura Premier.

Deepa Gurnani Peony Hard Headband

This all-white headband can be the cherry on top of your wavy locks. The embellishments are crystals and imitation pearls, ensuring that you sparkle as you walk down the aisle. Available on Shopbop.

Twigs & Honey Blush and Gold Bouquet Headpiece

Who says you can’t wear a bouquet on your head too? This piece has silk millinery flowers, gold-plated charms, and Swarovski crystals. You can tie it around your hair via silk ribbons. It’s your choice if you want the flowers to be on the side of your head or as an adornment to your bun. Available online.

Jennifer Behr Georgia Circlet Headband

Jennifer Behr is the same designer who created Eva Chen’s headpieces at the 2018 Met Gala and her wedding. If you want to feel like a goddess with a gold halo as well, cop this circlet headband with leaf details. It’s made with yellow gold and you only need to place it on top of your head, and you’re good to go! Available on Farfetch.
