mascara Wands

When you’re buying makeup, there are so many things to consider like packaging, ingredients, price, etc. For mascara, many research on the formula and skip on important factor: the wand. Looking the different wand shapes, you might be thinking that these are just gimmicky, but that is far from the truth. Each design serves a purpose and paired with the perfect formulation, can give you the best lash results. Depending on the kind of look you’re going for and the type of lashes you have, there’s a mascara wand that will fit your needs. Keep reading to find out if you’ve been using the correct one.

Covergirl Total Tease Full + Long + refined Mascara

Type of wand: Comb

I’ve seen mascaras with this type of wand but i never understood the use of it. The tiny brush at the tips helps you comb out your lashes, giving them a more feathered and natural look. This also gets rid of any clumps of those nasty things start to form around the hair. Available at Watsons branches.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky Extravagant Waterproof Mascara

Type of wand: Tapered

make up for ever mascara

If you were born with short lashes like me and don’t like wearing falsies, a tapered brush will work best. The pointed end can reach your inner corner lashes and other short strands and lengthen them. They can easily grab them and apply the product. The formula of this mascara is also waterproof so it won’t budge the whole day. Available at Greenbelt 5.

Dior Diorshow Mascara

Type of wand: Oversized

If you’re on the other side of the spectrum and have a full set of lashes, grab a mascara that has an oversized brush. It can accommodate all of the lash hairs and apply more product. The formula of Diorshow is conditioning and also has microfibers that give a lash extension effect. Cop this in blue, black, or brown. Available at SM Makati.

theBalm Mad Lash Mascara

Type of wand: Curved

You can probably already guess what a curved wand does but let me break it down anyway. If you want to curl your lashes even more, this will support and lift them up, making sure your curl stays put all day. Start at the root and hold it in place at the tip for a few seconds. Available at Beauty Bar branches.

blk Cosmetics Volume + Lash Extension Mascara

Type of wand: Hourglass

Get the fan effect with an hourglass-shaped wand. Glamsquad’s director of makeup artistry Kelli Bartlett told Byrdie, “The hourglass shape distributes product from root to tip. The result is a wide-eyed, mascara-heavy look.” This is exactly what I want to achieve at formal events. The kind of lashes that can even be seen in photos and Instagram Stories posts. Available at Glorietta 1.

RMS Beauty Defining Mascara

Type of wand: Thin

If you have fine lashes, grab a mascara wand that’s the same. A thin brush is more likely to get each strand as compared to a bigger one. This will also give a natural look that is buildable when needed. This is also perfect to use for the lower lashes. Available on Sephora PH.
