The most recent celebrity taking aim at the US government is Lady Gaga.
During one of her performances, she took some time on stage to call out the US President Donald Trump, as well as Vice-President Mike Pence and her wife, Katherine.
Katherine recently made headlines due to reports that she is now teaching at a school that discriminates against LGBTQ+ students and parents. Meanwhile, Mike Pence’s deeply conservative views are widely known. In 2000, part of his campaign was to realign resources from “organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus” to be “directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.” Though he denied the allegations, many believe it showed his support for gay conversion therapy.
Gaga told the couple, “You say we should not discriminate against Christianity; you are the worst representation of what it means to be a Christian. I am a Christian woman and what I do know about Christianity is that we bear no prejudice and everybody is welcome. So you can take all that disgrace Mr Pence and you can look yourself in the mirror and you’ll find it right there.”
Gaga additionally addressed Trump and the government shutdown, saying “if the f*cking President of the United States could please put our government back in business. There are people who live paycheck to paycheck and need their money.”
I doubt the three will listen to Gaga, given their stubborn mindset. Still, we applaud her for using her voice to speak up for the LGBT community and those affected by the shutdown.
