Dreaming. #MaisonValentino x #GoldenGlobes

A post shared by Gemma Chan (@gemma_chan) on

Today marks the 76th Golden Globes. Aside from the awards, we’re always on the lookout for the best fashion moments on the red carpet. Celebrities have been attending the event for years, so you know that everyone is on their A-game once awards season rolls around. This year, everyone went back to regular programming and not following a theme. Last year, most attendees wore black to show their support for the Time’s Up movement. Keep reading to see some of our favorites this year, including best in breaking gender stereotypes.

Best in comfort

Gemma Chan had the best of both worlds on the red carpet today. She wore a Valentino gown from their haute couture collection. It had a long train, bow detail at the back, and shorts underneath. She definitely did not sacrifice comfort for style in this piece.

Best in Kirakira+ sparkle

Lupita Nyong’o is always one to watch on the red carpet and this awards show is no exception. This year, she wore a custom Calvin Klein by Appointment gown. It was a rich cobalt blue color that complemented her skin tone. To give it that Kiarkira+ touch, it was embellished with a chain fringe with silver drop beads.

Best in bridal but make it red carpet

A touch of bridal for the red carpet can actually work, like it did with Constance Wu’s pick. She wore a custom Vera Wang gown. Constance “chose a nude tulle A-line spaghetti strap gown, with a sheer classic corset bodice, accented with a rouille orange velvet ribbon.” Would you wear this on your wedding day?

Best in matching the carpet

Lili Reinhart might have worn red, but she did not blend in with the carpet. Her choice for the event was a Khyeli haute couture gown tulle gown. It had so much texture and movement, it looked like she was floating. Oh, and we love the matching eye makeup too.

Animal print is in and Anne Hathaway got the memo. As if this dress wasn’t already on the fun side, it had a mix of different fabrics as well as a thigh-high slit on the skirt. So, where can I get this for myself, please?

Best cloud lookalike

Filed under pegs for when I want to look like a cloud is Lady Gaga’s Valentino gown. Inspired by Judy Garland’s 1954 ensemble, Gaga was dressed in a haute couture dress and cape made of silk faille. We’re also here for the matching hair color—another way to accessorize your outfit.

Best in bedazzled accessory

momma !

A post shared by Timothée Chalamet (@tchalamet) on

Leave it to Timothée Chalamet to take risks on the red carpet. Instead of going with a regular tuxedo or suit, he wore this outfit by Louis Vuitton. It was an all-black look featuring an embellished harness. We’d also like to give a special mention to his date aka his mom who was dressed in Off-White.

Best in breaking gender stereotypes

We love seeing all the pretty gowns on the red carpet but we also appreciate when celebrities switch it up. This year, Judy Greer decided to go in the opposite direction and rock a tuxedo instead. Yes, ladies, you can wear pants to these formal events too.

Best in color of 2019

It comes as no surprise that someone would pick 2019’s color of the year Living Coral for the Golden Globes. Jameela Jamil wore a Monique Lhuillier gown that had a draped skirt and floral details. Jameela also posted some BTS clips on IG Stories showing that she was actually wearing pants underneath so she wouldn’t feel cold. A fashion tip we are using next time.

Best throwback

Updating fashion trends from the past isn’t always easy but Claire Foy’s outfit proves that it can be done. Diet Prada described her look as inspired by 1930s glamour. She wore a yellow dress by Miu Miu that had a deep V neckline and embellishments all over it.
