Ready for this year’s beauty trends? While multiple experts and outlets gave their own predictions, one sure way to predict next season’s biggest trends is by simply looking at the SS19 runway at the recently concluded international fashion shows. While they served various, innovative looks worthy of our oohs and aahs, here are some we’re pretty sure will dominate this year. Check out the major looks and how you can take them from the runway to the streets.
Graphic cat eye
A strong cat eye is already a statement. SS19 took it to a whole another level with an upgrade to everyone’s favorite makeup trick. At Coach’s spring show for instance, models sported a sort of upside-down triangle that continued along the lower lashline, while Rochas awed with floating cat-eye triangles. Meanwhile, Burberry opted for a sharp version in taupe, Marni had theirs in a maximalist graphic swoops, while Dior opted for painterly freehand designs. Marco de Vincenzo’s version, a sharp winged liner, is something you can pull off every day. Or, you can start experimenting on your own graphic cat-eye with Gerard Cosmetics Eternal Eyeliner. Available at Freyja, Glorietta 2.
Loving Audrey Hepburn’s classy short bangs or Angelina Jolie’s more messy, grunge-y ‘90s fringe? This year is the best time to finally try it, because the runways gods have officially anointed this trend’s comeback. Yes, baby bangs are in, as seen on Guido Palau, Prada, and Miu Miu’s runway shows. For those with naturally curly hair, don’t be afraid to rock this style too. Teddi Cranford, lead stylist at NYC’s White Rose Collective, recommends adding a little bit of super light oil, like Apothecare Essentials The Mender Oil, to keep the curls intact. Available online.
Don’t throw out your shiny holiday makeup just yet. If SS19 shows are any indication, then the glittery makeup trend will be just as ubiquitous this year. In the runway, glitter was seen just about everywhere, from the makeup at Simone Rocha, Missoni and Tom Ford, the hair of models at Giambattista Valli, the foil-finished sparkling lips from Jeremy Scott, to the playful glitter eyeshadow plus the sheer glitter nails at Kate Spade’s runway show. Make the shiny makeup trend wearable for everyday by copping Glowboss, Sunnies Face’s multipurpose cream-to-powder shimmer stick. Available on Sunnies Face stores.
While people are not yet over with brows, this year it seems they will have another obsession: lashes. According to Health.com, “People are giving their eyelashes a lift with natural solutions like castor oil, grapeseed oil, and aloe vera to draw attention to their peepers.” On the SS19 runways, Moschino and Etro had their models wear spidery black lashes and a ’90s at Moschino. Chanel, Tom Ford, and Prada showed mascara-heavy lashes. As Vogue noted. “With the innovation in [brows and lashes] at an all-time high and interest showing no sign of waning, is it any surprise?” Give yourself lustrous lashes too with the help of Givenchy Noir Couture Waterproof Mascara. Available on Sephora PH.
Uber red lips
Last year, there was a surge of lip tint and nude lippies to complement the barely-there makeup trend. This year, classic red lips is making its grand comeback. As seen on the runway at Paris Fashion Week, lipstick-free looks gave way to vibrant red lips at Givenchy and Poiret, coral tones at Chanel, burgundy at Moschino, and rich tomato hues at Koché. Even Chloé, known for showcasing minimal makeup, made the case for a moodier red, Vogue noted. Ready to move on to bold, red lips? Cop the Tom Ford Luciano. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.
