One of the local traditions we have is to wear polka-dots during New Year’s Eve. The pattern symbolizes money and it is believed it will bring wealth and good fortune for the coming year. While not everyone subscribes to this belief, it won’t hurt to follow it either.
Although the pattern is generally perceived as tacky, if worn or styled in the right way, it could be anything but. (Also, who cares what anyone thinks? I say not being bothered by people’s opinion is a damn good way to start 2019.) So if you would like to keep with the tradition, here are some ways you can incorporate polka-dots into your outfit that can already make you feel like a million bucks, regardless if the belief is true or not.
Bershka bandeau top
For a party-ready, look, cop this stretch bandeau top from Bershka. The velvet material bedazzled with small polka-dots give it a luxe feel. Try pairing it with high-waist jeans and a belt bag for a high-fashion street look. Available at Glorietta 2.
Mango flowy trousers
If you want to keep the polka-dot pattern subtle, these flowy, straight-fit trousers from Mango is for you. It has an embroidered fabric so the polka-dot pattern is more of a texture than an actual print. It’s in a coral shade too, 2019’s color of the year. Feel free to pair it with its matching draped blouse for a more cohesive look. Available at Power Plant Mall.
Gucci pleated skirt
Stand out in this Gucci skirt featuring oversized polka-dots in a bold graphic print with a vibrant colorway. The piece is made from fluid white silk, with a mid-rise, calf-skimming length and voluminous pleated body. Available on Farfetch.
Zara V-neck dress
If you’re spending NYE with your SO, this fun and flirty number from Zara is perfect for your date. It features ruffles and a ruche detail with an adjustable drawstring on the front. Its ecru green shade is flattering for any type of skin color too. Available at SM Megamall.
Alaia ‘Bombe’ heels
Another way to wear polka-dots is on your feet. Make these classy Alaia heels the star of your look this NYE. These black sandals are decorated with painterly white dots and a row of hand-applied gunmetal studs at the ankle which adds a more edgy vibe to it. Available on Net-a-Porter.
