If you loved the mystery and suspense of Gone Girl, then you’ll obsess over Widows. The movie is directed by Steve McQueen and the screenplay is by Gillian Flynn, and it stars four of the biggest actresses in Hollywood. It’s basically the heist movie we all needed and we’re giving you three reasons why you should catch it.
Viola Davis is leading the pack
The movie centers on four widows trying to finish their husbands’, who all died during a heist, jobs in order to pay a crime boss back. Viola Davis stands as the leader of the group consisting of Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, and Cynthia Erivo. It’s also going to be interesting to see how these ladies will work together in the film and how they’ll stand out individually.
Aside from the four ladies we mentioned, there are other award-winning cast members in the film. Viola’s husband is Liam Neeson, who plays a thief; Colin Farrell is also in it as a politician involved in the widows’ plans. Some of the antagonists are Brian Tyree Henry and Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya. Exciting!
If the trailer’s any indication, you’ll see a lot of gunfire and explosions throughout the movie. There may also be elements of intimidation from crime syndicates as well. This is something that you’d usually see men deal with in action movies. But, as Viola says in the movie, the ladies are fearlessly taking control “because no one thinks we have the balls to pull this off.” They’re certainly showing everyone that they’re more than damsels in distress.
