Four skincare lessons I learned in my 20s

My skincare story is kind of a rough one. In high school, I had to deal with pimples on my forehead and also small bruises on my cheek and my nose. At the time, I cared less about meticulous skincare routines and simply settled for cleansers. I continued this habit until college and I quickly realized that I should’ve started sooner.

I’m 24 now and I only started being mindful of my skincare just a couple of years ago. I still have the same concerns, but I’m more self-aware of what my skin needs and the products I should be using. I’ve also learned to accept the fact that my scars won’t disappear overnight so I decided to focus on my overall skin health.

This switch also taught me to be confident in myself—well, slowly working on it—in the things that I do. Especially in my line of work where I need to interact with people I meet at events. But at least I don’t have to constantly worry about the state of my skin, unlike before when I would barely approach people because I felt insecure. It just proves that a change in lifestyle can greatly help you.

During the relatively short time I’ve done a stable skincare routine, I learned a few things along the way—how I valued it and how it helps me build up my confidence in the long run. I listed them down below to hopefully help you out in your own skincare journey.

Do your research

Skincare isn’t the same for everyone but it’s still helpful to be knowledgeable on terms and possible solutions to specific concerns. Read articles online and/or watch videos on which ingredients work best for your skin type and concerns. You’ll be pampering yourself the right and safe way in no time.

Keep trying until you know what works

On a related note, you should try out products until you find which the ones that go well with your skin. Our suggestion: Start out with Gluta-C’s soap and lotion which will moisturize your skin and give you a natural glow. Both products—ideally used as a combination—have have glutathione and vitamin C that fight pollutants and strengthen skin. They also worrk holistically to nourish the skin all throughout.

From here, you can add on to your skincare arsenal with items like toner, face masks, serums, and so on. Skincare is trial-and-error, and that’s totally fine!

Give time time for your skincare routine

Having a fixed schedule, and knowing the products you’re supposed to use for day and night, will help you have an effective flow for your routine. You can also make it fun so you won’t feel too lazy about applying your third layer of face cream.

Remember that it’s okay to improve yourself

While we always strive to accept our flaws, there’s also nothing wrong about changing some things about us for the better. Skincare is the the same as our personalities growing up: it changes overtime and you’ll see improvements in yourself too. Don’t let naysayers tell you otherwise. As long as you’re comfortable with what you’re doing and you’re not hurting other people, we say just go for it.
