Just like your skin, your hair and scalp also take a toll when exposed to the sun. According to Deccan Chronicle, prolonged UV exposure can damage hair, cause discoloration if you have bleached hair, and leave your scalp dry.
While we turn to our go-to haircare products, it also doesn’t hurt to take an extra step this summer. So we asked hairstylists Henri Calayag and Lourd Ramos on their recommendations to keep your hair and scalp cool and healthy.
TRESemmé Detox and Nourish Shampoo
Infused with ginger and green tea, this shampoo detoxifies hair from everyday pollution and other impurities. Lourd recommends this and says that the natural ingredients “soothes [the] scalp.” He also advises to use the matching conditioner. Available at Rustan’s Supermarket.
Bed Head by TIGI Totally Beachin’ Cleansing Jelly Shampoo
Another shampoo option is this one from Bed Head by TIGI. “It has cucumber and aloe vera for a cooling effect on the scalp and also protects your hair from salt water and sun,” Henri said. This is also a must-have if you have colored hair because it might turn brassy after swimming in the sea. Available at leading hair salons.
Davines Naturaltech Well-Being Destress Lotion: Protective Biphasic for Hair and Body
For added nourishment and protection, Lourd swears by this hair and body spray. It’s formulated with vitamin C, clove, sandalwood, and other anti-inflammatory ingredients. The product also feels velvety in texture when sprayed. Available on Hair MNL.
Banana Boat Ultra Protect Sunscreen Lotion
“Apply sunblock on wet hair,” Henri told us. “I always recommend to my clients to use any waterproof sunblock whenever they go for a dive. Best protection for salt water and chlorine water.” He said that any sunblock will do since they’re safe for hair use. For this, you can try Banana Boat’s Ultra Protect Sunscreen Lotion which has SPF 50. Available at Watsons.
Davines OI Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion with Roucou Oil
“Use roucou oil from Davines to strengthen hair,” Lourd said. This also helps in taming frizz and adding shine to the hair. It can also help in detangling hair, especially after taking a dip at the beach. Available on Hair MNL.
