Mary Joy Apostol of ‘Birdshot’ Wins Best Actress in ASEAN Film Awards

Birdshot, one of the most critically acclaimed films of this year, continues to make its mark all over the world. After being chosen to represent the Philippines in the Oscars’ Foreign Film category, their lead actress also won big at the first ASEAN Film Awards.

Mary Joy Apostol, who plays Maya, was named Best Actress in Da Nang, Vietnam. The film awards is an auxiliary event of the 20th Vietnam Film Festival where Birdshot was screened.

The actress expressed her gratitude on her Facebook page. Friends and family also congratulated her in the comments section.

Before her big break in Birdshot, Mary Joy starred in the 2012 short film Unawa, which was also directed by Mikhail Red. Her next big project is playing the lead role in the comedy Simplicity the Movie. The film will also feature special appearances by Solenn Heussaff and Rhian Ramos.
