When I pick out clothing pieces, I try to find ones that don’t sacrifice comfort for style. I don’t wear heels unless the occasion calls for it and I don’t really wear flats. More often than not I wear sneakers. They’re comfortable and you can dress them up or down. However, there is one type of sneaker that people may have forgotten, ones with velcro straps. I think it’s time that we give them their moment because there are some advantages we can gain from wearing a pair.

Has this ever happened to you? You’re just casually walking and then suddenly trip over your laces or you’re standing on an escalator only to fall over because your laces got stuck in the steps. Well, these have happened to me. I do still wear sneakers with laces but why not try ones with velcro closure? They’re just as comfortable and they save you some time getting ready too.

No, these are not like the velcro shoes you wore back in grade school, these are given an adult upgrade. Don’t believe me? Check out the list below and see for yourself.

Superga Strap Embossed in Green

SupergaRock the classic Superga silhouette without the hassle of shoelaces. These strapped shoes are outfitted with synthetic leather. The embossed snakeskin and silver stripes make these shoes stand out even more. Not feeling the green color? These also come in beige and nude. Available at Greenbelt 5.

Vans Boom Boom Style 23 V in Silver Sage

vansFor something more subdued, try this pair from Vans. From the Boom Boom collection, it retains the retro shape combined with leather, a redesigned toecap, and resized hook-and-loop closure straps. This design in particular mixes two different kinds of textiles for a subtle touch of design. Available at Glorietta 3.

Marni Parmi Sneakers

marniAdd some color to your outfit with these color-blocked sneakers from Marni. It has a classic round toe and mesh panels that make these a great pair for long days. Pair this with tailored looks for events or off-duty outfits at the office. Available on Farfetch.

Alexander McQueen Extended Sole Sneakers

alexander mcqueenCan’t get over the white sneaker trend? Mix it up a little with this pair. It has an exaggerated chunky sole and thick velcro straps. To break up the white, it has a black heel that can peek out from underneath your jeans or comfy trousers. Available on Farfetch.

Tretorn Carry 2 in New Grafite

tretornMetallic accents aren’t going anywhere so add these sneakers to your collection. It has three velcro closures and padded cuffs for extra support. My favorite feature is the grip tread sole, perfect for clumsy people like me who fall all the time. Available at Bratpack, Greenbelt 5.
