I’m one of those people who started off skeptical about the use of primer. Why do I need another layer to my face? The answer came when I did start using a primer and saw how it decreases the layers of foundation and concealer I use, hence, decreasing  the chances of ending up with a cake-y base.

It also came when I realized each primer is created differently to match various skin types and makeup needs. But between choosing a foundation atop of the primer it goes best with, it can get confusing and time consuming. We here are Preen.ph hear your collective “Ain’t nobody got time for that” cry and give you five primer-foundation pairings to try, according to what you need.

All Day Wear

Celeteque 24-Hour Photoready Matte Primer + MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation

On days where you don’t want to touch up nor do you want to suffer from the rest of your makeup melting off, trust a primer that turns tacky on your skin so it can hold on to anything that you put on top. This combination guarantees full-coverage so try to go easy on the setting powder.

Celeteque. Available at select Watson’s branches.

MAC. Available at SM City North EDSA.

Bye-Bye, Hyperpigmentation

Max Factor Smooth Miracle Primer + Maybelline Fit Me! Matte and Poreless Stick Foundation

The silicone base of the Max Factor Smooth Miracle Primer fills in pores nicely without giving you extra coverage. It also makes your skin smooth so the foundation, like the stick one from Maybelline easily glides on and can be blended even with just your fingers.

Max Factor. Available at The SM Store, Makati.

Maybelline. Available at select Watson’s stores.

Get Glowing

3CE Back to Baby Glow + Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation

The Back to Baby Glow contains lavender, chamomile, basil leaf, and rosemary to help improve the glow of your skin from within. On the other hand, the Stila Illuminating Foundation has mica and tiny crystals that reflect light while giving you medium coverage. This pairing is for when you don’t mind skipping the highlighter for all over radiance.

3CE. Available at SephoraPH.

Stila. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source, Glorietta 4.

Stay Hydrated

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water +  Makeup Forever Water Blend Foundation

Spraying the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water has been compared to taking a glass of water through your skin. It makes it bouncy and supple. If you need to make sure this doesn’t go away, use the oil-free foundation from Makeup Forever. Made of eight percent water, it leaves a lightweight but waterproof coverage so your skin can breathe.

Smashbox. Available at select Beauty Bar branches.

Makeup Forever. Available at SM Mega Fashion Hall.

Sensitive Skin

Kat Von D Lock It Hydrating Primer + Clinique Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup

This Kat Von D Beauty primer is made with vitamin B5, aloe vera, jojoba, and shea so that it can nourish sensitive skin. It’s also made without parabens, sulfates, and phtalates so it won’t likely add on to your skin woes. It goes well with the Clinique Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup which contains salicylic acid to help reduce breakouts. It also reduces redness and blemishes.

Kat Von D. Available via SephoraPH.

Clinique. Available at SM Aura Premier.
