Give Popcorn a Rest and Try These Snacks on Your Next Movie Date

Admit it: Anytime you’re at the movies with a bag of popcorn in hand, there’s a good chance that it will be gone before the actual movie even starts. It doesn’t matter though because the experience just isn’t the same without something to munch on as you watch the movie reveal its plot twist.

If you’re in need of some alternatives that are equally or even more delicious than popcorn, try these snacks the next time you head to the cinemas. And seeing as the second half of 2017 still has a lot of must-see films in store, there’s no doubt you’re going to need them.

Lazy Bastard brands itself as lovers of bacon and ridiculous comfort food and it shows in their popular side dish, Tater Bombs. They are warm and fluffy tater tots, wrapped in crispy bacon. It’s a fun and tasty dish with just the right amount of salt. The first time I tried this, the second thought that came to mind was “I’m so bringing this the next time I watch a movie,” the first being, “Wow, it’s so good!”

Available at U.P. Town Center. For a complete list of branches and more information, visit their Facebook.

I consider La Lola Churreria as one of the most creative restaurants for quick bite foods right now. Their menu changes up every month, with new flavors and variations on the popular dish being added. However, nothing beats their original crispy churros, dipped in sauces ranging from dark chocolate to good ‘ol ube. You can even opt to buy their hot chocolate dip for that extra sweetness. Getting the Assorted Churros will give you a taste of all their flavors in a handy cone, perfect to bring inside the cinema. Sharing is optional.

Available at Powerplant Mall and Glorietta. For a complete list of branches and more information, visit their Facebook.

Auntie Anne’s tagline of “Pretzel Perfect” applies even to their smallest offerings. The Pretzel Nuggets are bite-sized versions of their famous pretzels with the taste and texture intact. You can also create a coating and dip combination of your liking from the different flavors they offer if you want something more exciting.

Available at Alabang Town Center and Theater Mall. For a complete list of branches and more information, visit their Facebook.

You may already know Potato Corner’s flavored fries but have you met its match made in heaven? It’s Kris Aquino’s (or it might actually be Bimby, we don’t know) creation, Nacho Bimby. The addicting fries go perfectly with the equally delicious and juicy Nacho Dog. From now on, you don’t have to choose between the two since you can take both in one convenient tray!

Available at Eastwood Citywalk. For a complete list of branches and more information, visit their Facebook.

If desserts are your snack of choice, then you need to try Yo! Panda’s gelato and bubble waffle combination. The gelato’s smooth and creamy texture contrasts the crispy bubble waffle and it makes for a really interesting combination. The menu offers a variety of topping choices ranging from Filipino favorites such as Chocnut to newer food trends such as matcha. Who says you have to go to Hong Kong to try these?

Available at SM Megamall. For more information, visit their Facebook.
