Fragrance-free skincare: Why you should switch up your routine

You may have heard multiple times how a natural beauty product is fragrance-free. But what does it actually mean? Does it automatically mean that it’s scentless?

Well, not exactly.

A fragrance can be made up of synthetic chemical compounds to produce a scent, which can irritate the skin when it’s incorporated in skincare products. When a product is fragrance-free, it’s free of any chemicals that can be harmful to your skin, but it can still have a scent due to certain ingredients.

Take note: Unscented products aren’t the same as fragrance-free. They still have masking fragrances to make them smell “natural.”

If you’re on the hunt for fragrance-free skincare, shop our list below.

Simple Kind to Skin Moisturizing Facial Wash

This facial wash cleanses the skin and removes excess oil and dirt minus parabens, sulfates, and fragrances. It also leaves your skin hydrated and nourished with the help of vitamins B5 and E. Available at Watsons.

Human Nature Moisturizing Shampoo

Human Nature’s shampoo is made from vitamin and amino acid-rich coco nectar that nourishes hair, and also aloe vera extract and avocado oil to soften strands. It has no sulfates, which means it’s a mild choice for every hair type, even colored hair. Available at Rustan’s Supermarket.

Wild Products Oat and Milk Soap

You’ll get both moisturization and exfoliation in one bar of soap from Wild Products. It’s made with goat’s milk which can calm inflammation, and oatmeal to buff out dry, flaky skin. Available on Sephora PH.

Cosrx Light Fit Real Water Toner to Cream

Cosrx’ cream toner is lightweight and won’t clog up your pores. It’s made with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C-rich sea buckthorn, and niacinamide which hydrate skin and protect it against free radicals. This is also ideal for people who have skin inflammation and hyperpigmentation. Available on Soko Glam.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion

If you have dry patches on your skin, especially your hands, you can reach for Cetaphil’s moisturizing lotion. Unlike other products, this one is not sticky and doesn’t leave thick residue on the skin. This is also ideal for those with sensitive skin. Available at SM Makati.
